Shimosuwa
Suwa, located in Nagano Prefecture, Japan, is a region known for its hot springs, cultural heritage, and the famous Suwa Grand Shrine (Suwa Taisha), one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Japan. The area is divided into two main towns, Suwa and Shimosuwa, both of which are situated around Lake Suwa. The region is known for its Onbashira Festival, held every six years, where massive logs are paraded through the streets and raised at the shrine in a dramatic and ancient ritual.
Suwa is also noted for its natural beauty, with the surrounding mountains offering opportunities for hiking and outdoor activities. The area’s hot springs, or onsen, attract visitors seeking relaxation and healing in a traditional Japanese setting.
